Little League Reps Determined....

Kaohsiung City won the recently completed Hsieh Kuo-Cheng Cup to earn the right to represent the country at the Asia-Pacific tourney of the LLWS.

Kaohsiung rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to beat Taitung County 3-2 in the championship game today. Last year's defending champs from Taoyuan County (Kueishan) came in 6th.

From Kaohsiung, P/IF Wei-Chi Chen earned tourney MVP honors, while lil' IF Chen-Wei Chen (younger brother of Red Sox farmhand C Chia-Chu Chen) led the tourney by hiting at a .571 clip. WC Chen started and won a 1-hit shutout against Kaohsiung County on the 8th of May - he also started in the championship game. Teammate Shao-Fei Huang, IF/P is another name to keep an eye on for the team.

Catcher Hsun-Hao Shih slammed a 3-run home run on the 10th against Taitung County (8-1 win for Kaohsiung City). Shih, who stands 5'3", weighs close to 200 pounds!

I checked out all the teams that competed this year. I think the crop is quite weaker. I mean yes Taiwan is all about skill since in Asia we tend to be much shorter but I looked at all of our teams and this one doesn't even have anyone 170 or above. Lets just hope one of these kids has a gun for an arm at pitching. last year we had decent velocity guy and some nice defense and offense. I think if we can do anywhere close what we did last year, I think we can win it all.

Didnt last years LLWS 2nd place contender from Taiwan compete again in this tourney though? I remember they had a good number of players over 170 including Sung Wen Hua..

I mean of course the American teams always bring kids that are big and most of those huge kids can't pitch, but even Japan usually brings at least two heaver hitters about 180cm and at least one of them can hit. I remember maybe 2-3 years ago we had a big guy who's velocity was right up there and our second pitcher was decent, but we couldn't hit. last year we were on point. And most of the teams that compete have kids older than ours, because since you can have 13 year olds now it's basically impossible to have a 13 year old going from grade 6 to 7 because Taiwan uses teams from each school(because of some BS rules after 96 so we had to divide even more teams)
